I'd have made the centre laminations in 2 parts to form the wiring channel.

Already done mate. It's cut into the center sheet that's not shown. will get a flip side shot today. @ Mr Vickers- the sheets had to be cut individually with an old coping saw, as my jig saw died a smokey death last week :slap: Any future projects will be tacked like you said.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm really enjoying this build. What makes it more fun is all I've bought so far is paint and glue. Everything else has been found in the shed and at work or given to me :)

If you can get hold of one a black and decker powerfile will make short work of shaping the stock. Great job so far :good:

Rob and I shaped the stock today with a rasp and power sander. Then gave it some stain and a coat of linseed oil. I've temp mounted it for photo's and general cool looks. Will make a nice solid mount soon.

Stock mid shaping

Stained and oiled

All together

I'm 6'7" and this 50inch monster still looks big on me! Sorry for the face, I can't help it. It's so freaking sweet! ;)

Hope you like it

It's coming along nicely! One thing though, i just noticed that the grain on your wood stock is running perpendicular to the length of your stock....in RS, the grain is supposed to run parallel...supposedly to add strength to the stock...

Ah ok cool. It's ply wood so I don't know if that makes a difference?

It's not that you need the extra strength in the stock, it's just that if you look at pics of any wood stock, the grain is parallel to the length..same applies to laminated (ply) stocks....That's how those nice lines appear when the wood is stained...But if it's no biggie, don't let it bother you. :)

It doesn't make any difference WRT the strength (not that it needs to be strong for airsoft), it's just that it looks a bit odd. Especially so with the light stain colour.

Lamination has been used in WW2 gun stocks before. Every G43 I've seen has a laminated wood stock.

if you look on the OP sealion threads its there somewhere, plus the vickers that was made.

Are there any details of these? I can't find any, only a few photos that don't show much.

Why thanks, Bi pod for this one until i get a bi plane that is :)

UPDATE!

What can I say, I like big butts. So here's mine! 3mm Ali sheet. Dremel'd and beaten to shape. Will ali black it when I finish the rest of the gun.

Would have done more but just spent most of the night sorting out the workshop. Got lots of airsoft bits that needed sorting, more than I thought I had. Why I have 12 bevel gears I don't know :S

Here it is....

We came to a mid point on the finish, looks close enough but could be better in my eyes. I think the fact we spent £30 making this adds to the "individual" look :P

I'm very happy with it as despite the flaws. It shoots fantastically. 327fps with the hop set, feeds fine and has good range and spread. Then there's the epic loudness!

it's solid as a rock but next months play test will tell me how solid our new toy is :D

Any who... PHOTOs

"ugly" receiver side

Rear sight made from a m4 hicap base and some "greeblies"

That happy face again...

A shot for size comparison

5'10" rob with the 50 inch lewis gun

MOAR happy face :P

more en route...
